In this invigorating series of contemporary dance classes, Lacina Coulibaly will use West African dance principles as a foundation to explore contemporary dance as defined and invented by artists from the African continent. Students will gain insight into their own movement style while developing a deeper appreciation for the cultural contexts that shape contemporary practice. We will develop the close connection between body and music, heightened attention to the energy exchanged between dancers, group dynamics, and personal style. Come and experience the liberating power of rhythm and movement in a space that celebrates belonging and collective joy, individuality and community alike. All levels are welcome. Free and open to the Yale community.
All classes will be held at The Broadway Rehearsal Lofts at 294 Elm Street, 3rd Floor.
