everywhere - New Choreography by Vicky Shick

Spring 2020

Vicky Shick has been making dances since the late eighties. She was a member of the Trisha Brown Company for six years and has worked with many other performers and choreographers. During her time in TBDC she received a Bessie Award for performance. In 2003 along with artist, Barbara Kilpatrick she received a second Bessie Award for their work together. Shick has also created pieces with students at several colleges and universities including Barnard, Bryn Mawr, George Washington, Hunter and the New School, and teaches at several institutions in the NYC area mostly at Movement Research, for the Trisha Brown Company and for fifteen years at Hunter College. She has also taught internationally and has set Trisha Brown pieces at festivals and universities, including in her home town, Budapest. She was a two-time Movement Research Artist-In-Residence, a grant recipient from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Guggenheim Fellow and a DiP grantee at Gibney Dance Center.

Yale Dance Lab’s Spring 2020 project with postmodern choreographer Vicky Shick was abruptly interrupted by the global pandemic, forcing Shick and the ensemble to reinvent the performance in digital form. The resulting video piece, titled “everywhere”, premiered digitally Friday July 17, 2020, edited by Kyla Arsadjaja.
